Double decker buses to trial on South Lantau
The New Lantao Bus Co (NLB) is considering a trial of double decker buses on South Lantau to cope with an expected spike in population
Deputy general manager Benny Chan said the company was in discussion with the Transport Dept on testing two-decked vehicles on the 3M route between Tung Chung and Mui Wo.
He said the plan was still in its early stages, and no timetable has been set. If it does go ahead, he said most likely it would be divided into two phases – first on Tung Chung Rd only and then on South Lantau Rd.
“The use of double deck buses can increase the capacity of carrying passengers to cope with the development in Mui Wo area,” Chan said in an email.
With the Mui Wo population expected to increase by as much as 40% after the completion of HOS apartments in 2018, the Transport Dept is also reviewing Lantau’s transport needs.
Currently the public transport network “can basically satisfy” passenger demand, a spokesperson said. She would not rule out the possibility of introducing a green minibus service.
She said the department had completed the tender of new Lantau taxi plates in the first quarter.
The new taxis would be on the road after owners had paid their fee and completed licensing procedures. she said.

It will be very scary . Suggest to have express busses from Tung Chung to Pui O then Muiwo just three stops just like some express busses in Central . This will help those who are working from Tung Chung and Airport . The Normal bus can catch the students and other commuters.
