Police arrest 16 drivers over fake Lantau road permits
Police arrested 16 drivers who used fake permits to enter South Lantau yesterday. More than half were Lantau residents using photo-copies.
One of those arrested, a foreign national, told police she had paid HK$5,800 online for her permit, Oriental Daily reported.
In vehicle checks on Tung Chung Road and South Lantau Road during the Buddha’s Birthday holiday yesterday, drivers of 13 private cars, two motorcycles and one light goods vehicle were arrested, police revealed at a press conference.
Another 18 vehicles were ticketed for entering the closed road without a permit.
The arrested drivers, who were all released on bail, face possible charges of using false instruments.
